Cake Decorating

Ok...I am playing catch up with my posts. But I worked so hard on this cake that I just couldn't NOT post the pictures!! I decided to make Alora a birthday cake...and went with Spongebob. I just baked a 9x13 cake...and went from there. It was fun...and took a looooooong time. I started around 3 in the afternoon...and probably worked till Midnight. No joke. But it was totally worth it. Check it out:

He's still pretty naked at this point. I did a white crumb coat, then outlined what i needed to with black, then started on the yellow stars.

Close up!

Look, I even did his dark spots! And his face was done free hand...:-)

Still working on the yellow...

I wish I would have taken more pictures...because I missed the in between stages. But at this point I've got his pants and shirt done with stars. I've made his arms and legs out of fondant that I colored to match his body. And I used frosting to make sleeves on his arms and tube socks.

His feet are still white here...had to make more black frosting. But this is a printout that I went off of. Pretty good I think. This is the first character cake I've done!

Finished!

Easter Cakepops

I love love love Bakerella. So I decided that I wanted to make her Easter cakepops. (I did a test run of smiley faces the week before. For an April Fools Day treat for Shane and I to take to work...good thing I did this because they didn't turn out too well. I highly reccomend getting the brand of edible markers that Bakerella uses as well as some good candy coating. Wilton just didn't do it for me. Love their cake decorating items, not so much the candy making ones)

First Step, cut up the cake and remove the pieces

Break it up into chunks

Then crumble, crumble, crumble

Add in most of the can of frosting

Mix it together...this will get messy

Yes, dear me, I did two flavors of cake

Here is the strawberry cake crumbled

Added frosting...

Mixed up!

I rolled the chocolate cake into balls for the chicks and the strawberry into pointy ball shapes for the bunnies...they were pretty tricky to make attractively even.
Basket of chicks. Note that someof them have white blobby eyes...Shane did those. He had fun helping (though he might not admit it!)

Chick friends!

Bunnies...yeah. I don't know about these. Not so pretty in my opinion.

And the final photo had to be this one. Shane insisted on photographing me making these...which I did not include because I was a mess. But he just had to have a picture of my slippers because I wore them the whole time. You need them when you are standing in the kitchen for that long!!

Hope you enjoyed them!

Pre-Easter Fun

The weekend before easter Heather and Eric asked if we'd watch Alora while they were out of town. Of course we took her. She is so adorable! We also invited my sister Katelin over. Together we decorated hardboiled eggs and also decorated chocolate cakes that were egg-shaped.

Our kitchen table during easter cake decorating!!

The finished products...a bit scary...but the girls had fun!

Alora with her favorite egg that she decorated.

And Katie with her favorite!

Yep, Alora liked playing at our place. She went post-it note crazy!

And that was our pre-Easter weekend of fun!

Blog Numero Uno

Ok. I am not going to lie. I am copying off of a friend. But I thought her blog was way cool (Jill I am talking to you...if you happen to read this) and so decided to do my own. So anyways this is my first blog, of course. I'm actually going to try and do a couple today of various recent events to get up to date.

Life is good right now. I'm very happy with every aspect of it. Except for missing my Twin. She is off living it up in AZ. I am happily living with my wonderful boyfriend Shane in an apartment in Maumee, OH. We are getting a bit sick of the close quarters and too strange of neighbors and little things like that, so we will be looking for an actual house this summer/fall. I can't wait for that. We can finally have a dog (ahh!), kitchen space, a spare bedroom, our own laundry facilities that actually work, a grill outside, etc. I am already looking at houses for sale online...even though it's way way too soon to be doing that.

I also am currently doing Weight Watchers with my mom. We are both doing really well. Down 23 lbs so far as of today's weigh in. If anyone wants to lose a few, this plan is definately the one to follow, as far as I am concerned.

Well I hope everyone has a great weekend! Enjoy the beautiful weather if you can...it's supposed to turn back to dreary here soon.
