Cake Decorating

Ok...I am playing catch up with my posts. But I worked so hard on this cake that I just couldn't NOT post the pictures!! I decided to make Alora a birthday cake...and went with Spongebob. I just baked a 9x13 cake...and went from there. It was fun...and took a looooooong time. I started around 3 in the afternoon...and probably worked till Midnight. No joke. But it was totally worth it. Check it out:

He's still pretty naked at this point. I did a white crumb coat, then outlined what i needed to with black, then started on the yellow stars.

Close up!

Look, I even did his dark spots! And his face was done free hand...:-)

Still working on the yellow...

I wish I would have taken more pictures...because I missed the in between stages. But at this point I've got his pants and shirt done with stars. I've made his arms and legs out of fondant that I colored to match his body. And I used frosting to make sleeves on his arms and tube socks.

His feet are still white here...had to make more black frosting. But this is a printout that I went off of. Pretty good I think. This is the first character cake I've done!

Finished!

3D shot!

  2. Fondant. I'd never used it before...but it worked really well for this. I don't think I'm talented enough to cover an entire cake with it though like the professionals do!
